Old growth flooring is one of the most luxurious products that can be installed in any type of setting.  This product offers a number of features that are not found in other types of flooring, and it is sure to be a conversation piece for many years.  The hallmarks of this lumber are that it has been given enough time to properly mature.  This leads to a finished flooring product that is stronger and more durable than anything else on the market.  It also features colors that are richer than other materials because of the density of the annual growth rings.

Anyone who is considering installing a new floor in their home or business should give some thought to the benefits that are found in old growth lumber.  One of the first features that appeals about this wood is the look it offers.  There are a wide range of colors that are found in this lumber that is not found in the other materials that are currently on the market.  This is a result of the time the trees had to grow.  Unlike modern flooring, the trees that are found in old growth products are hundreds of years old.  Modern logging practices only provide 20 years for a tree to be ready for harvest.  This results in a product that has annual growth rings that are extremely wide.

When a consumers is concerned about durability and strength, they would do well to think about the benefits that are offered with old growth flooring as well.  These trees are known for the density of the finished product, and this is what makes the flooring strong.  Moving furniture and pet’s claws are just some of the things that threaten to scratch the finish on a floor, and old growth products will eliminate this threat, as they are much denser and stronger than modern products.

The widths of the finished planks are another benefit that is provided with old growth flooring.  A hundred years ago, trees had plenty of opportunity to grow several feet in diameter.  This enabled the loggers to bring wood to the market that was at least six inches to a foot wide.  This is not found in modern products, as most of these are only four inches wide at the most, and many are much narrower than that.
